Naturewatch

The Naturewatch Compassionate Shopping Guide 12th Edition 2010 lists Unilever as a company that is not endorsed by Naturewatch. This was because the company unable to demonstrate a fixed cut off date for its animal testing policy.

 

 

Past Boycotts

 

Ecolinks.net

The Ecolinks.net  boycott site reported in May 2002 that Lever Bros was the subject of a boycott call over its alleged use of fat from rendered-down whale and dolphin meat, caught in the Caribbean, in several soap and margarine brands.

 

BUAV

According to the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) 'Dirty Secrets' list, on their website, www.buav.org, when viewed on the 9th January 2007 Unilever was the subject of a boycott call because of its use of animal testing for household products.

 

South Africans Against Vivisection

According to a Compassionate Shopping Guide, accessed on the SAAV web site in April 2000, Unilever had been the subject of a boycott call by the campaign group South Africans Against Vivisection (SAAV) due to its testing of products or ingredients on animals.


Animal Aid

In 1997, Animal Aid called a boycott of Unilever over the issue of animal testing. The company said that it did not test cosmetic products on animals but declined to refer to household products, or specifically to Surf and Persil. It also acknowledged that it undertook or commissioned "whatever tests are necessary to meet the regulations".

 

Earth First!

According to a 1992 report, Mid-Somerset Earth First! called for a boycott of unethical health food companies including Unilever for its bad environmental records, low wages and conditions for third world workers and interests in South Africa.
