Npower, the big tax turnoff
Ethical Consumer has joined forces with online campaigners 38 degrees to protest about npower's tax avoidance by encouraging npower customers to switch suppliers.
In November, npower hiked gas and electricity prices for its customers by nearly 10%. And then it admitted that it hadn’t paid a single penny in corporation tax for three years.
The Big Tax Turnoff campaign has links to 6 alternative energy companies - Good Energy, Green Energy, Ebico, Ecotricity, Co-operative Energy and Ovo - so that npower customers can easily switch suppliers. Plus, you send an email to npower telling them that you are leaving them and why.
The alternative suppliers all feature as tax-paying, more ethical companies in our up-and-coming guide to gas and electricity suppliers.
This new guide will be released in mid June. Meanwhile, check out our current guide which recommends Good Energy and Green Energy as Best Buys.
