Swarovski’s Blood Stones
Swarovski Optik, part of the crystal-cutting Swarovski Group, has been accused of actively supporting trophy hunting, producing rifle-scopes specifically for game hunting, in addition to sponsoring the controversial pro-gun lobby in the United States. According to the Viva! website, Swarovski Optik had openly admitted its association with Uitkyk Safaris in South Africa, who offered wild animal 'shopping lists' for hunters after the 'real killing experience'.
Viva! Campaigns manager, Justin Kerswell, said “looking at Swarovski’s promotional materials and visiting one of their many stores across the country, you would have no idea that another subsidiary of the same parent company promoted violent blood sports and had links to the pro-gun lobby in the US. Behind Swarovski’s glitter lies something much darker.”
At the time of writing SwarovSwarovskiski Optik was also listed as a corporate sponsor of Safari Club International, whose moto stated 'the leader in protecting the freedom to hunt and in promoting the wildlife conservation worldwide' and was listed as “a loyal sponsor of NRA (National Rifle Association) Hunter Services Programs” – the self-described “number-one hunters' organisation in America”.
