Companies in firing line over unconventional fuels
Walmart and Dole have been targeted by US environmental group ForestEthics for their use of Canadian tar sands as a transportation fuel. ForestEthics says that tar sands kill forests, deplete and poison fresh water, and generate large quantities of air pollution. It is asking supporters to send a protest email to the companies asking them to use cleaner transportation fuels.
Dole's banana rival Chiquita recently committed to avoiding tar sands and joined 15 other companies who made a similar commitment.
