Protests over workers pay and conditions

Yesterday the Sheffield Pizza Hut Workers Union, part of the International Workers of the World (IWW), held a protest outside the Crookes branch of Pizza Hut in Sheffield in response to an ongoing dispute over workers terms and conditions.

The union outlined two main areas of contention. Firstly the company recently scrapped enhanced pay rates for working bank holidays. Secondly fuel payments to drivers, who use their own cars, had remained static for several years despite the soaring cost of petrol. The union also says it has concerns over delivery staffs' safety equipment and pay increases falling behind inflation.

Solidarity protests were held in Brighton, Bradford, Glasgow, London, Birmingham, Bristol, Hull, Liverpool, Calais, Portland, Vancouver and Berlin.
