    Could you please indicate which is better to use in the UK, taking into account environmental impact, including air miles, and worker conditions.
    (Don't worry about relative health impacts on consumer - it's sugar either way!)

    Apparently it's a tough one, since sugar beet has lower miles, but is much less productive to grow. Whether agricultural workers in the UK are paid a living wage and enjoy good working standards is another tricky point, given the very low levels of inspection and enforcement of labour laws.

    Best bet is probably to go for EC's best buy brands (e.g. Equal Exchange, Suma) as these will always be to a good standard given their hard work to trace their supply chains.
