All Know the Origin products are organic and many are also Fairtrade. Both these certifications provide protections for workers’ rights. The company could also provide information about every stage of its supply chain, from its cotton grower, ginners and dyers to the factories where its garments were made. The cotton was grown by two farmer-run co-operatives in India.
The company received Ethical Consumer’s best rating for Supply Chain Management, as it had effective practices in place and a turnover of under £10.2 million.
Know the Origin also received Ethical Consumer’s best rating for Environmental Reporting. Know the Origin’s website included information about every stage of the production process. It highlighted its commitment to organic and Fairtrade. These standards work to protect the natural environment and mitigated against the impacts of the clothing industry on the planet.
Animal products such as silk and wool are common in the clothing industry. However, Know the Origin did not sell any clothing made from animal products.
Know the Origin had a positive company ethos, selling only organic clothing. It therefore received a positive mark from Ethical Consumer under Politics.
