CCTHITA (Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska) have called for a boycott of FedEx for as long as they continue to sponsor the Washington Redskins - who bear a racially offensive name. The term “redskins” is derived from a horrific former practice of removing the skin of Native people for the purpose of collecting bounties.
Over 100 professional organizations representing civil rights, educational, athletic, and scientific experts have also recognised that the use of Native American names and / or symbols by sports teams promotes misunderstanding and perpetuates negative stereotypes.
Boycott FedEx also launched a boycott call against the company in December 2015, due to its links with the National Rifle Association. The boycott gained momentum following the NRA's comments following a shooting at Majory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, in which 17 pupils died. The NRA continued to oppose gun controls and criticised Parkland Student Campaigners. FedEx continued to offer a 26% discount for NRA Business Aliance members.
