When viewed by Ethical Consumer in April 2020 the GlaxoSmithKline website, www.gsk.com, stated that the company tested on animals. It was said to have a company-wide policy that covered the standards of care and the ethical treatment of animals in research.

Much of its animal testing was said to be for medical purposes. Regarding non-medical animal testing, the website stated: "We do not test non-medicinal products on animals unless there is a specific legal or regulatory requirement to do so." This was considered to be a worst-rated animal testing policy as it did not preclude other entities from testing on the company's behalf.
