In August 2018 Ethical Consumer viewed Viva!'s website for its supply chain management policy. The following information was found:
"Since the birth of Viva!'s Gifts for Life catalogue over 20 years ago, we have always sourced and sold vegan products (organic and fair-trade when possible). As a vegan charity, we believe in supporting like-minded producers and businesses and take great pride in offering you, our valued supporters and customers, a wide range of cruelty-free merchandise, where no one (including our farmed friends) was harmed in the making... We try to source products that are both organic and ethically-produced; meaning the environmental impact is low and products are fairly-traded. Not all products that are organic or fairly-traded carry the Soil Association or Fair-Trade certification - this does not mean they are not environmetally-produced or ethically-made. We try to include pertinent information as to the product's ethical credentials in the product's description, including links (if possible) to the company's own ethical policy."
Viva! sold a very small range of products. According to the Charity Commission's website the total income for the charity in 2017 was just under £1m. Around £117k was raised through its trading activities.
As a result Ethical Consumer considered Viva!'s supply chain management policy to be effective if not explicit. The company therefore it received a best rating under the category.
