In November 2020 Ethical Consumer searched Avon's website for details of its animal testing policy. A page was found called "Avon takes global stand against animal testing".

It stated:

"Avon has ended all regulatory-required animal testing, making it the first global beauty company selling in China to stop all animal testing of ingredients and products across all its brands.

Respect for animal welfare is a cornerstone of Avon’s product safety philosophy and Avon was one of the first companies to stop animal testing to support product safety 30 years ago...

Now Avon has taken the significant step to immediately stop all animal testing for China by making a series of investments, which includes moving away from products requiring testing, innovating in new products and expanding into alternative distribution channels."

The company had been acquired by Natura in January 2020 but no evidence was found at the time of writing that Natura's animal testing policy and Leaping Bunny certification yet applied to Avon. It was not listed on the Cruelty-Free International website as Leaping Bunny certified.

However, Avon did not have a fixed cut off date for animal tested ingredients, and so receieved Ethical Consumer's middle rating for animal testing and lost half a mark under the Animal Testing category.

In November 2020 Ethical Consumer viewed the Aesop website which stated: Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny approved. This would require Aesop to have a fixed cut-off date as part of its animal testing policy.
The company, therefore, received Ethical Consumer's best rating for animal testing.

It stated: "All The Body Shop products are cruelty-free and certified by Cruelty Free International...The latest CFI agreement includes a cut off date of march 11th 2013 in line with CFI guidelines".
As a result the company received Ethical Consumer's best rating for its animal testing policy.
