In March 2020, Ethical Consumer viewed L'Occitane's website for the company's animal testing policy.

The company's ‘Our Viewpoints’ page was viewed which stated "The L’OCCITANE Group has been against animal testing for more than 40 years and we have never tested our products, active ingredients or raw materials on animals”. It did not have a fixed cut-off date in relation to this policy.

However the page goes on to say “In China, where our products are retailed, the local Chinese authorities request that some cosmetic products sold on the Chinese market are tested.”

Due to the fact the company did not a fixed cut off date and operated in China it received Ethical Consumer's worst rating for its animal testing policy and lost a whole mark in this category.
