In February 2020 Ethical Consumer sent Friendly Soap Ltd a questionnaire, requesting information about its supply chain management policies and practices. No response was received. Ethical Consumer therefore searched the company’s website, www.friendlysoap.co.uk, in March 2020 for publicly available information.

The website stated that its products were made in the UK by people paid a living wage. Regarding raw ingredients, no mention of certification or supplier audits was found. Its shea butter was said to be bought from a women’s worker cooperative in Ghana but no further details was provided.

Although Friendly Soap was a small company (turnover of less than £10.2million) that was taking some provisions to manage workers’ rights in its supply chain, in absence of more detailed information it received a middle rating for its Supply Chain Management and lost half a mark in this category.
