In March 2020 Ethical Consumer viewed the Astonish website. On its FAQ page the company stated that all its products were Vegan Society approved. However, the company sold, 'Car Care Leather Cleaner'. This product did not appear to be certified by the Vegan Society.

In January 2017 Ethical Consumer viewed the Astonish website and had found the following statement: "You’ll find the Vegan society accreditation across the range with the exception of our leather cleaner and car care tar and insect remover. Not because these products contain any animal ingredients but due to the nature of the items these products can potentially clean." Ethical Consumer considered this to still be the case.

While all the company's products were marketed as vegan, and the vast majority were ceritifed by the Vegan Society, because the company sold a product that was explicitly designed to care for products derived from animals, i.e. leather, it was not considered to be a fully vegan company. Half a Company Ethos mark (as opposed to a full mark) was awarded to the company for being a vegetarian, almost vegan, company.
