In August 2021, Ethical Consumer visited the Bookshop website FAQ section, which stated that it was a B-Corp. It stated " Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose."

The company website stated "Bookshop.org is an online bookshop with a mission to financially support local, independent bookshops." It stated "By design, we give away over 75% of our profit margin to stores, publications, authors and others who make up the thriving, inspirational culture around books! We hope that Bookshop.org can help strengthen the fragile ecosystem and margins around bookselling and keep local bookshops an integral part of our culture and communities."

In August 2021, Ethical Consumer received a questionnaire response from Bookshop.org which stated that "We are in the process of applying for B Corp certification for the entire organization.". This suggested that whilst the parent company Bookshop Inc had the certification, Bookshoppe Limited (the UK company) was not yet a B Corp. Bookshop.org did state that it was "in the process of applying for B Corp certification for the entire organization."

The company was awarded a positive Company Ethos mark for being a B Corporation.
