Help Create a Campaigning Legacy

Ethical Consumer Research Association is a not for profit cooperative that has been working for over 25 years to help consumers challenge corporate power. In addition to our magazine publishing and ethical consultancy services, we co-ordinate and support campaigns to help shape a better world.

As the campaigning side of our work doesn't generate revenue, we rely on working in partnership with others, and occasional grant support. This limits the development of consumer campaigns and our ability to take-on corporate power in the way we wish to.

In the recent past we've partnered with a range of like-minded organisations on campaigns such as the Amazon Boycott and Turn Your Back on Grouse. Whilst we have had some success with this approach, we recognise that to create, launch and sustain truly effective campaigns programme we need dedicated resources.

To take on corporate power more effectively we are building a long-term fighting fund for campaigns.

Please consider contributing to this through a legacy gift.

Leaving a legacy gift to Ethical Consumer: 3 simple steps

1) Plan your will

You'll need to think through what you'd like to leave each of your beneficiaries. Will Aid have produced a useful will planner to help you with this process. Family and friends typically take priority.

2) Write a will, or amend an existing will

If you already have a will you can make an amendment to it by completing a short document known as a codicil. It is typically added to your will by a solicitor who will charge for this service. Download a codicil form for leaving a legacy gift to Ethical Consumer.

If you don't yet have a will, you'll typically use a solicitor who'll guide you through what you need to do. The more planning you've done, the easier and quicker it will be. Download the wording you'll need to include in your will for leaving a legacy gift to Ethical Consumer.

3) Let us know

We don't need to know how much you're planning to leave to Ethical Consumer, but we'd like to know how many people want to support us in this way, and why. Download a legacy giving feedback form.

Please note that Ethical Consumer is a co-operative, not a charity, so leaving a legacy won't reduce your inheritance tax bill.

Write that will!

November is a great time to write a will as it is Will Aid month. Participating solicitors waive their fee and instead invite clients to make a donation of around £95 (for a basic single will) to Will Aid. This money goes to nine charities assisting people in the UK and overseas.

September and October are the best times to book a slot with a participating Will Aid solicitor. Go to www.willaid.org.uk to find participating solcitors.
