How ethical is Lucy Bee Ltd?
Our research highlights that, while there is room for improvement in some ratings, Lucy Bee performs strongly in terms of ethics across a range of different issues. Particularly in its approach to animals, ingredients and tax.

Animals
Lucy Bee scores highly in Ethical Consumer’s ratings on Animal Testing and Animal Products. This is because it is certified cruelty-free through the Leaping Bunny certification scheme and is a vegan company.
It also has a statement on its website confirming that no monkeys are used to harvest the coconuts used for its products, which is a practice used in some regions: “Our producer from the Philippines says “In the Philippines, it is not custom to utilise monkeys or any other animals to collect coconuts from the tree. Harvesting method is either manual (climbing) or using bamboo pole.”
Respect for animal rights therefore appears to be embedded in the company’s operations.
Fair Trade
Many of Lucy Bee’s ingredients, including coconut oil, cocoa, turmeric and chai, are certified Fair Trade through Fair Trade Sustainability Alliance (FairTSA). FairTSA certifies Fairtrade by training existing organic certifiers, meaning organic certified producers can also become Fairtrade without adding extra inspections.
While Lucy Bee doesn’t publish the names of all its suppliers, it shares information about some of its suppliers, such as its coconut supplier in the Philippines.
Organic certification
Many of Lucy Bee’s products are certified as Organic or Natural through the Soil Association’s COSMOS scheme. As well as providing assurances that the agricultural ingredients are grown organically, this scheme also ensures products don’t contain genetically modified ingredients or controversial chemicals such as parabens and phthalates.
Lucy Bee lists all of its COSMOS certified products on its website as well as on individual product pages.
Palm oil policies
Lucy Bee is mostly palm oil free but some products do still contain palm oil. This is all certified with the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and also certified organic with the Soil Association. This means Lucy Bee, as a small company, scores highly in our Palm Oil rating.
Finance policies
Lucy Bee is a small, independent company based in the UK and has no subsidiaries in tax havens.
Lucy Bee has a policy to limit pay ratios, saying: “The company maintains equitable pay structures with minimal pay ratio differences between the highest- and lowest-paid staff”. Lots of big companies don’t have any discussion around pay ratio despite having more resources to consider policies, so it’s a positive sign when small companies have considered the issue of pay ratios.
