We ask the big questions facing society and discuss possible solutions and answers that prioritise people and planet over profit.

2026 Ethical Consumer conference

This year has seen huge leaps in the development of AI and technology, with governments investing millions of pounds in to big tech companies under the guise of making our lives easier and propel us into the future.

Meanwhile, most of us are feeling the threat to our privacy, our jobs and the strain this will put our environment under for land and water resources.

Following our research into Big Tech and AI for magazine issue 221, we explored this topic further with a range of experts, and you, the people who may or may not use Big Tech and AI, in our conference in 2026.
 

Theme for 2026

How can we navigate the AI era ethically?: Resisting big tech and challenging its corporate power.

We asking how we can look after ourselves, come together to resist tech corporate power, and put people and planet at the top of the agenda.

We were joined by speakers from Rebel Tech Alliance, No Tech for Apartheid, Global Justice Now, Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Stop Funding Heat, Lush, People vs Big Tech, AlgorithmWatch, Balanced Economy Project, Foxglove, Friends of the Earth, and more. 

The programme included sessions on:

  • Resisting Big Tech corporations with ethical tech options for consumers
  • Social media and wellbeing
  • Alternative ethical tech and AI for businesses and organisations
  • Ethical Consumer workshop on moving away from Google and big tech in your every day life
  • Resisting data centres for climate justice
  • Military use of AI and campaigning for Palestine
