Our ethical screenings best buys

From April 2024, the possibility of licencing the Best Buy logo was made available to products or brands which have not been featured in published buyers guides.

This page explains more about the new screenings Best Buy scheme.

The assessment process for products not in buyers guides

(i) Companies must first fill in two 'ethical health check' questionnaires.

The first asks five questions about your company.

The second asks a few more questions about the product.

If you think your overall score is more than 65/100 you may be eligible to use the label.

If not, the questionnaires contain within them suggestions of what is needed to improve scores sufficiently to make the grade.

PDF's of the questionnaires may be downloaded at the bottom of this document.

Contact us to discuss a separate process if your company has already been assessed in another currently published report.

(ii) When you think your company is ready, please ask us to send Word versions of the questionnaires and we can move to the assessment stage.

This will involve sending in the completed questionnaire and paying our standard screenings fee of (currently) £225 plus VAT. Our researchers will check the evidence you send, and that the score is sufficiently high, and they may ask some questions. If the standard and the certification is approved by our assessment team, it will be possible to move to the licensing stage in the usual way by contacting Simon Birch on: 0796 9086136 or by dropping him an email: birch@ethicalconsumer.org

Transparency of screenings research

The credibility of our ranking system is rooted in its transparency.

(i) For Best Buy products featured in Product Guides, logged-in readers will be able to see the details of each ranking decision on the website in the usual way.

(ii) Best Buy products from our screenings research will feature on our Best Buy website page where readers will be able to download a pdf of the completed and checked assessment questionnaire.

More information about redacting confidential information and non-disclosure agreements appear in the guidance notes document below.
